Have you made a short film in the past year? Our programming team is eager to watch it!
Since 2009, Leiden Shorts has brought together film enthusiasts and filmmakers to celebrate the power of cinema. Now, we are busy preparing our 16th edition, which will take place in June 2024.
Fiction, Documentary, Experimental, Animation… Leiden Shorts welcomes the submission of short films of any form and genre which were completed after 1 January 2023, and are no longer than 30 minutes. Films can be submitted to the following competitions:
- International Competition - The International Competition gathers the world's finest short films.
- National Competition - The National Competition highlights short films produced in the Netherlands and up-and-coming local filmmakers.
- International Student Competition - The International Student Competition showcases the works of students worldwide.
Awards
The films in these programmes will compete for a financial award, which will be decided upon by a professional jury. Additionally, all selected films are automatically also eligible for the “Audience Award” in addition to any other competition they are part of.

International competition & National competition
- Early bird deadline: November 6, 2023 - €10,50 submission fee (€9,00 via Leiden Shorts website)
- Regular deadline: December 17, 2023 - €13,50 submission fee (€12,00 via Leiden Shorts website)
- Last chance deadline: January 7, 2024 - €20,00 submission fee (€17,50 via Leiden Shorts website)
International Student Competition
We offer discounted submission fees for the International Student Competition:
- Early bird deadline: November 6, 2023 - €6,00 submission fee (€5,00 via Leiden Shorts website)
- Regular deadline: December 17, 2023 - €9,00 submission fee (€8,00 via Leiden Shorts website)
- Last chance deadline: January 7, 2024 - €15,50 submission fee (€13,50 via Leiden Shorts website)
